2026 Scholarships

2026 College Scholarship Winner — Madison

Madison is attending Coastal Carolina University, focusing on math thanks to all her practice calculating carbs and insulin doses for her Type 1 Diabetes over the years. She plays Varsity tennis and is the captain of her Varsity team. Madison acknowledges that T1D doesn’t take any days off and is exhausting and overwhelming but doesn’t let it define her. Congratulations Madison!

2026 College Scholarship Runner-Up — James

New this year, there were so many amazing applications of T1D students thriving with the diagnosis that we added a runner up award. James, diagnosed in 2015, has been involved in many clinical trials advancing breakthroughs for our community. James will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the fall, focusing on problem solving in Automotive Engineering. Congratulations James!

2026 College Scholarship Winner — Aidan

Aidan is attending Bridgewater State University aspiring to be a social worker. Aidan wants to help kids and teens with T1D and other medical challenges through the roadblocks they face daily. Aidan hasn’t let T1D stop him from doing what he loves. Congratulations Aidan!

2026 Friends For Life Scholarships

Elbowbumpkid Inc awarded scholarships to attend the diabetes education event Friends For Life in Orlando, Florida — the Linder, Kochavi and Bairos families (including a new runner-up onsite support scholarship).

Past Scholarships

2025 College Scholarship Recipients

Ivy McNiel is our CT scholarship winner, continuing her studies toward a doctorate in Physical Therapy at Simmons University. Hannah Guevremont is our first ever Rhode Island scholarship recipient, studying nursing at Rhode Island College. "The journey has taught me that my voice matters and that I have the power to make a difference… But most importantly, my T1D has brought me so many connections."

2024 College Scholarship Recipients

In 2024, $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Ivy McNiel and Kaitlin Tassmer — Connecticut residents whose applications clearly demonstrated their commitment to the community. Both students are patients at Connecticut Children’s and appreciate the consultative relationships they have with their providers.

Friends For Life Scholarships (2021–2024)

Since awarding our first Friends For Life scholarship in 2021, Elbowbumpkid Inc has sent families to the Orlando diabetes education event every year — 4 scholarships in 2022, 3 in 2023 and 3 in 2024 — where families learn from leaders in the diabetes community how to thrive despite the disease.

Diabetes Scholars / Beyond Type 1 — 2022

Elbowbumpkid Inc awarded Ethan Rosenthal, a local 2022 high school graduate, a scholarship through Diabetes Scholars, a program of Beyond Type 1. Ethan is pursuing a career in nursing at Florida State University.
